Description: In order to create an effective learning environment, teachers must understand the behaviors of students and how to help them make choices that will lead to the success of all students. Classroom management practices should grow out of a mutual respect between the students and the teacher. The most essential aspect of classroom management is effective instruction that engages students in meaningful, relevant activities that are well organized, developmentally appropriate, and creative (Slavin, 2018). An effective teacher knows how to address minor negative behaviors in a way that does not escalate the situation and maintains the structure of the lesson. This often involves simple nonverbal cues such as proximity or eye contact (Slavin, 2018). Praising and reinforcing the desired behaviors rather than drawing attention to negative behaviors will support a positive learning environment (Slavin, 2018).
